About
I have worked with clients in English/Spanish helping adults, at-risk youth, children, adolescents and veterans, with exposure to trauma, neglect, abuse, and parents with parenting issues. Working as a therapist is more than a career for me; it is a privilege to be invited into my clients’ lives. Whether we are navigating co-occurring disorders or working through parenting challenges, my goal is to provide a trusting environment with the ‘active support’ you need to feel heard and valued.Â
I see therapy as a journey, not a destination. It is an ongoing process of learning and growth. Together, we will model healthy relationships that allow for constructive feedback and collaboration on goals that empower you to make meaningful, lifelong changes and discover your best self.
Certifications and Expertise
As a therapist providing individual, couples, and family therapy, I utilize several frameworks derived from a number of models such as Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Solution-Focused, and Narrative. This broad range helps me implement more effective interventions for the purpose of assisting my clients with their therapeutic goals as each person has a different life experience. I am also trained in Gottman Couples Level I.
When working with adolescents and adults with substance abuse issues, I use Motivational Interviewing and Seeking Safety techniques to encourage change and focus on improving and strengthening my client’s motivation to change.
I have certifications in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Crisis Oriented Recovery Systems Model, and from the Department of Mental Health in these Evidence Based Practices: Seeking Safety and Motivational Interviewing. I am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) from the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through certified training. EMDR can help to resolve unprocessed trauma, which allows the brain to resume its natural healing function.
Education and Training
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been in the mental health field for over 17 years in inpatient and outpatient settings. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Anthropology from California State University Long Beach and my Master’s Degree in Social Work with a concentration in mental health and a sub concentration in military social work from the University of Southern California.
